Ballet

Ballet is a beautiful and structured form of dance that promotes excellent posture and provides a strong technical foundation for all forms of dance. Though no formal exams are taken at FACES, students will learn parts of the RAD Syllabi. Current classes offered are Preschool Ballet (ages 4 - 6), Ballet 1  (ages 6 - 8), Ballet 2 (ages 8 - 10) , Ballet 3 (8 - 12), and Senior Ballet (10+.)

Dress code: pink ballet tights, leotard, ballet shoes, optional ballet skirt, hair secured away from the face.

Lyrical

Lyrical combines ballet, jazz, and contemporary in a free and fluid dance form less structured than ballet. It uses many components of ballet, such as turns and leaps, but also incorporates a great deal of floor work. A background in Ballet is strongly recommended. We offer Junior Lyrical (8 - 11), and Senior Lyrical for students ages 10+.

Dress code: tights, leotard, jazz shoes, optional jazz shorts, hair secured away from the face.

Tap/Jazz Combo & Tap

The Jazz and Tap Combo class is a great way to try both forms of dance, Jazz and Tap. Tap is a lively dance form that uses special shoes to make percussion sounds on the floor while one dances. Jazz is an up beat, performance style of dance that includes elements of ballet, steps from American pop culture and Broadway. Current classes offered include Tap/Jazz 1 (6 - 8), Tap/Jazz 2/3 (8 - 11), and Teen Tap/Jazz (11+.) We also offer Mini Tap for students ages 4 - 6.

Dress code: tights, leotard, tap shoes, jazz shoes (combo class only,) optional jazz shorts, hair secured away from the face.

Hip Hop

Hip hop is a fast-paced fusion genre of dance that combines isolations, popping and locking, breaking, jazz, and other freestyle movements. Hip Hop encourages dancers to incorporate their own style and attitude into the choreography, and have fun to upbeat pop or hip hop music. FACES offers Mini Jazz/Hip Hop (ages 4-6), Hip Hop 1 (ages 6 - 8) and Hip Hop 2 (9 - 12.)

Dress code: sweat pants, tank top or t-shirt, non-marking sneakers, hair secured away from the face.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre is a performing art that combines singing, dancing, acting, and dialogue. FACES is proud to offer a Musical Theatre intensive, that combines vocal, dance, and acting lessons with set and costume design. This program is offered to students ages 8+.

Dress code: leggings or sweat pants or shorts, t-shirt or tank top, jazz shoes, hair secured away from the face.

Acro

Acro is a fusion of classical dance and acrobatics. This style of dance requires athleticism for the dancer to incorporate gymnastics elements into their dance choreography. Current classes offered are Acro I (ages 7 - 11), Acro II (7 - 12), and Senior Acro (ages 8+.)

Dress code: leggings or shorts, leotard or tank top, hair secured away from the face, barefeet.

Contemporary

Contemporary is a fluid and interpretive dance style, with foundations in jazz, lyrical, modern and ballet.  It is very expressive, the dancer’s facial expressions and ability to tell a story are equally as important as the quality of their movement.  Contemporary is offered at the Junior (7 - 11) and Senior (9+) levels.

Dress code: leggings or shorts, leotard or tank top, hair secured away from the face, barefeet.

STRETCH AND STRENGTH

This is a technique class meant to help dancers improve their form, strength, and flexibility. Students will also practice elements of dance such as jumps and turns. This 45-minute class is open to students ages 8+. There is no choreography or recital performance in this class.

Dress code: tights or leggings, leotard or tank top or t-shirt, hair secured away from the face.
